Dear colleagues, students and faculty, In this October newsletter, I am excited to share the launch of our new Center for Women’s Health Engineering, led by Associate Professor Michelle Oyen. The center will bring together engineering faculty and trainees from across the McKelvey School of Engineering with faculty and trainees in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the School of Medicine to promote interdisciplinary research and educational programs that advance knowledge and engineering solutions to challenges in women’s health.
Our Center for Biomolecular Condensates will hold its inaugural symposium Oct. 14. This new center, led by Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor Rohit Pappu, is focused on discovering principles for intracellular phase transitions that drive biomolecular condensates. The roles of condensates in cell physiology and disease are major foci of the center and this inaugural symposium will feature leaders from the condensates field, discussing advances that impact cell and synthetic biology, and biomolecular design.
Thanks for your support of WashU BME always - I look forward to connecting with many of you later this month at BMES.
Kind regards,
Lori A. Setton Professor and Chair
