Degree pursuing: PhD in electrical engineering
Please provide your lab and description of research.
I work in the Applied Mathematics Lab under the guidance of Dr. Jr-Shin Li. My primary research lies at the intersection of mathematics, biology and chemistry, where I use tools from mathematics to investigate biological systems and chemical oscillators. Some of my other research projects include network analysis, particularly the development of novel tools for determining network connectivity structure.
Where did you complete your undergraduate degree?
I got my bachelor's degree from IIT Kharagpur, India.
What played into your decision to get a graduate engineering degree?
My desire to work at the forefront of technological development was a major factor in my decision to pursue a graduate degree.
Why did you pick Washington University in St. Louis?
WashU provides a unique research environment where I can collaborate with experts from diverse domains, allowing me to grow as a researcher. WashU also has an inclusive, equitable community that makes me feel at home.
What was your favorite course and why?
My favorite course was "Optimization." The content I learned from the course can be applied to a wide range of problems in various domains, from economics to machine learning.
Who is your favorite instructor and why?
My favorite instructor is Jr-Shin Li, professor of electrical & systems engineering. Dr. Li provides a well-balanced combination of rigorous theory and practical applications in his courses. His way of teaching makes it easy to understand the course material with little extra effort.
What advice would you give to a new student?
I would advise incoming graduate students to explore as much as possible before delving deeper into the research.
Are you presently in the workforce or have any work history? If yes, please describe.
I worked as an engineer at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for three years prior to joining WashU.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I plan to continue doing research in academia.
