Teaching focus
In 2014, Allison Creighton joined McKelvey Engineering’s Communication Center to teach Technical Writing. Since then she has also taught Communication Tools for Academic & Professional Success in Engineering, and Presentation Skills for Scientists and Engineers. Along with a teaching background of nearly three decades, Allison brings many years of experience as a technical writer and editor.As a teacher, she encourages open discussion, effective peer feedback, and ongoing self-evaluation, with a focus on the recursive nature of the writing (and presentation development) process, and an emphasis on the process of revision.
Biography
Allison holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri–St. Louis, an AB in English and Secondary Education from Washington University in St. Louis, and two undergraduate degrees in music. In 2006, she founded a technical editing service in which she focused on writing and editing medical and biotechnology life science materials, including federal grant proposals and submissions to scientific journals and conferences. Prior to joining McKelvey Engineering, she taught at Fontbonne University and St. Louis Community College – Forest Park, where she also supervised the Supplemental Instruction Program. Allison’s poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies, and her first book of poetry was published in 2015.
