Turner to study vegetative buffers for air pollution along highways
Jay Turner, vice dean for education and associate professor of energy, environmental & chemical engineering, has received a one-year, $85,465 contract from the Federal Highway Administration for a project titled “Monitoring and Modeling of Vegetative Buffers for Mitigating Air Pollutant Concentrations in Near-Road Environments.” This will be the first long-term study of vegetative buffer pollutant mitigation efficacy and will inform green infrastructure planners who, in turn, work with transportation and air quality planners to assess, design and construct such buffers.
