Peters wins Klemin Award for work in vertical flight aeronautics
Dave Peters will receive the Dr. Alexander Klemin Award from the Vertical Flight Society May 15
David Peters, the McDonnell Douglas Professor of Engineering, has been chosen to receive the Dr. Alexander Klemin Award from the Vertical Flight Society. The award is the highest honor the society gives an individual for notable achievement in advancing the field of vertical flight aeronautics. The award honors Alexander Klemin, a prominent aeronautical engineer, educator, author and a pioneer in rotary-wing aeronautics. Peters will receive the award at the society's Annual Forum & Technology Display May 15 in Philadelphia.
Peters has received numerous awards through his career, including the Nikolsky Lectureship of AHS International (the Vertical Flight Technical Society) in 2008; Reed Aeronautics Award of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2011; and the Spirit of St. Louis Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2013.
Previous winners of the award include Igor Sikorsky, an aviation pioneer in both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft; Kurt Hohenemser, a helicopter design pioneer who was Peters' mentor at Washington University; and Charles Kaman, a pioneer in rotary-wing flight and founder of Kaman Aerospace. The Vertical Flight Society is the world's only international technical society for engineers, scientists and others working to advance vertical flight technology.
