Ramahdita's part begins at 26:11
Ghiska Ramahdita, a second-year doctoral student in mechanical engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, received the Audience Choice Award in the Reach Out Science Slam Finals held May 4.
Ramahdita, who works in the labs of Nathaniel Huebsch, assistant professor of biomedical engineering, and Guy Genin, the Harold and Kathleen Faught Professor of Mechanical Engineering, was one of two winners in the competition to determine who can tell the best science story in 3 minutes. In her Reach Out Science Slam Finals presentation, Ramahdita combined colorful virtual background animations and physical props to describe her quest to understand how the heart’s natural rhythm can be thrown off by mechanical factors and how we can develop better treatments to someday prevent deadly disease.
Ramahdita also is a researcher at the Research Center for Biomedical Engineering, Indonesia. She studies mechanobiology in engineered heart muscle and has been recognized as a James & Mary Wertsch Scholar of the McDonnell International Academy.
