Silva paper named one of JACC’s 'most talked about' in 2020
The paper, which shared results of clinical trials using the Microsoft HoloLens headset and augmented reality during surgery, was one of JACC’s most popular papers online and on social media
A paper by Jon Silva, associate professor of biomedical engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering, and Jennifer N. Avari Silva, MD, associate professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine, has been named one of the “Most Talked About Articles” published by the Journals of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) in 2020. Papers on this list were published by the JACC and its specialty journals and received the most online media and social media attention worldwide during the past year.
The Silvas’ paper, titled “First-In-Human Use of a Mixed Reality Display During Cardiac Ablation Procedures,” was first published in the JACC specialty journal JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology in its August issue and shared results of clinical trials of cardiac ablation procedures using the Microsoft HoloLens headset with custom software on patients at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
The paper was mentioned in 18 different news stories and was shared by more than 70 different Twitter accounts, including those managed by health care practitioners and science communicators.
