Please provide your lab and description of research
I am pursuing my PhD under Dr. Kooresh Shoghi in the Quantitative Molecular Systems and Imaging Lab. My lab's research focusses on developing multi-scale computational and informatics pipelines using AI to quantify biological processes and identify therapeutic endpoints. My research focus is developing deep-learning based imaging pipelines in context of co-clinical imaging to assist translation for therapeutic decisions from preclinical to clinical space.
What played into your decision to get a graduate engineering degree?
I was actively involved in imaging based research in my undergraduate days and wanted to further my knowledge and research abilities. I also like the ability to work on several exciting projects on developing new technologies as a graduate student.
Why did you pick WashU?
WashU School of Medicine's research in imaging science domain is one of the best in the world. Along with great research facilities and faculty the research in WashU is very interdisciplinary which is very exciting.
What is your favorite thing about St. Louis?
The best thing I like about St. Louis is that though it is not a very big city it has a great gastronomical scene with a large variety of restaurants, breweries and wineries. Another thing which I like in St. Louis is biking in Forest Park or visiting the St. Louis Art Museum (which is free !!!).
What advice would you give to a new student?
Any graduate student journey is very unique, exciting and challenging so never feel that you are not good enough.
What campus activities or groups would you recommend to a new student?
There are a variety of activities/groups you can join in WashU based on your interests. If you like to get involved in campus-wide leadership activities you can start with AGES, GPC or GSS.
What are your plans for the future?
To pursue a research based career in academia or industry.
