Synthesis and characterization of complex protein therapeutics to modulate the immune system

Research

Kyle Apley’s research is focused on developing engineered protein-based therapeutics to suppress undesirable immune responses in autoimmune diseases. This is accomplished by leveraging known signaling pathways in the immune system that provide context to the immune system when it encounters the molecule of interest. His goals are to identify robust synthetic strategies that are suitable for large-scale production and regulatory approval to move these molecules closer to the clinic.

Biography

Kyle Apley earned a PhD degree from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry along with a certificate in chemical biology at the University of Kansas as a NSF graduate research fellow. He joined the Berkland lab at Washington University in St. Louis in September 2023.
