Jun to receive 2022 Jackson Award
Young-Shin Jun, professor in the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering, has been recognized for her technical contributions to the structure and reactivity of clay minerals
Young-Shin Jun, professor of energy, environmental & chemical Engineering, has been selected to receive the 2022 Marion L. and Chrystie M. Jackson Mid-Career Clay Scientist Award from the Clay Minerals Society.
The Jackson Award is given to society members between the ages of 39 and 60 who contribute new knowledge of clay minerals science through the publication of scholarly and original research. Jun was specifically recognized for her “technical contributions to the structure and reactivity of clay minerals and their surfaces [that] have made a strong impact in the professional community.”
Jun’s research explores the environmental impact of human activities, such as conventional and unconventional oil and gas recovery, hydrothermal energy and nuclear waste disposal.
The Clay Minerals Society, an international organization devoted to the study of clays and clay minerals, will present the award during its 59th annual meeting in July 2022. Jun will also serve as the meeting’s plenary speaker.
