Where did you complete your undergraduate degree?
City University of New York - Hunter College
Please provide your lab and a description of research.
I am in the Vahey lab. My research explores how the structural and biophysical properties of respiratory viruses shape our immune response.
What played into your decision to get a graduate degree?
During my undergraduate studies in chemistry, I participated in WashU's Summer Engineering Fellowship (WUSEF), where I conducted research in a biomedical engineering lab. This experience introduced me to the exciting intersection of biology and engineering, and I was drawn to the practical applications and vast opportunities that engineering offers.
Why did you pick WashU?
My experience in WashU's Summer Engineering Fellowship (WUSEF) showed me firsthand the university's collaborative research environment, cutting-edge technology, and state-of-the-art facilities. I was also drawn to St. Louis as a vibrant and affordable city, making it a wonderful place to live while I pursue my graduate studies.
What is your favorite thing about St. Louis?
Forest Park is my favorite thing about St. Louis! It's home to the St. Louis Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, The Muny, the Saint Louis Zoo, the Steinberg Ice Skating Rink, and more! There's always something to do, and many of the attractions are free!
What advice would you give to a new student?
Take full advantage of the opportunities at WashU! There are a countless number of resources and events available both socially and professionally. The professors and faculty are incredibly supportive and are always willing to help with any situation, so don't hesitate to reach out.
What campus activities or groups would you recommend to a new student?
Young Scientist Program, AGES, Pivot 314 Fellowship
What are your plans for the future?
After my PhD, I plan to pursue a career in industry or biotech startups. Through my experience with WashU's Pivot 314 program, where I interned with a St. Louis startup, my interest in entrepreneurship has only grown, and I'm excited to explore similar opportunities in the future.
