Biography
Ben Kumfer has over 15 years of experience in combustion research, with emphasis on the utilization of oxygen to increase process efficiency, reduce pollutant emissions, produce nanomaterials, and enable capture of carbon dioxide. He has published work on a variety of energy and environmental topics including pressurized oxy-combustion, biomass cofiring, particle formation in flames, and health effects of combustion-generated particles.
Kumfer serves as the manager of the Advanced Clean Energy Research Facility and oversees the operation of several unique combustion test furnaces at a scale of up to 1 MWth. Prior to joining the research faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California Davis in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering.
