Research
Zhiyang Wang’s research lies at the intersection of graph signal processing, graph machine learning, geometric data analysis, wireless communications, and autonomous systems. She is passionate about designing scalable, robust, and explainable machine learning solutions for large-scale structured data. Her work bridges theory and practice: using signal processing insights to uncover the mathematical foundations of deep learning on graphs and geometric data, create novel architectures, and develop new training strategies that push beyond the limitations of current approaches, enabling breakthroughs in areas like wireless networks, high-dimensional data analysis, and autonomous systems.
Biography
Zhiyang Wang will join the Department of Electrical & Systems Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis as an assistant professor in August 2026. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in the Electrical and Systems Engineering Department. She received the best student paper award at the 29th European Signal Processing Conference and the Bruce Ford Memorial Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She was chosen as a Rising Star in Signal Processing and an EECS Rising Star in 2023, as well as a Rising Star in Data Science in 2024.
