McKelvey Engineering faculty, students receive Provost’s Research Excellence Award

Honor recognizes exemplary researchers and scholars across the university

Two faculty members and three graduate students from McKelvey Engineering received 2025 Provost Research Excellence awards at the 2025 Global Research Excellence Showcase Nov. 10.

The event highlights the latest research by Washington University in St. Louis faculty members and researchers who are working across borders and disciplines to address humanity’s most pressing challenges. It features presentations from recipients of the Global Incubator Seed Grants, which leverage WashU’s international partnerships to advance innovative research in line with the university’s strategic plan. The program concludes with awards and recognitions celebrating research excellence at WashU.

The Provost’s Research Excellence Award recipients from McKelvey include:

Faculty:

  • Rohit Pappu, Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering
  • Ning Zhang, associate professor of computer science & engineering

Students:

  • Justin Kim, doctoral student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science (Institute of Materials Science and Engineering)
  • Claire Najjuuko, doctoral student in the Division of Computational & Data Sciences
  • Lauren Treiman, doctoral student in the Division of Computational & Data Sciences
