Two McKelvey Engineering students to join national laboratories this summer
Adam Kirsch and Jamie Kamp chosen for research internships with the U.S. Department of Energy

Two McKelvey Engineering students will participate in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program this summer.
Adam Kirsch, who earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics in 2024 and is pursuing a master's degree in data analytics and statistics, will join Argonne National Laboratory's Data Science Learning Division. His research will aim to develop a scalable, automated system for managing machine learning models, datasets and metadata across distributed computing environments for efficient AI workflow.
Jamie Kamp, a junior majoring in chemical engineering, will join Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Energy Conversion Group in the Energy Systems Division, which works to develop next-generation energy technologies that improve efficiency, emissions performance and fuel adaptability across diverse applications. Her research will focus on reducing particulate emissions from wood heaters.
Seventeen laboratories participate in the SULI program, which is managed by the DOE’s Office of Science. It provides interns the opportunity to work under the guidance of scientific and engineering staff on projects that are relevant to the DOE mission of ensuring America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.
