Lake to attend 2019 Global Grand Challenges Summit
Spencer Lake, associate professor of mechanical engineering & materials science, has been invited to attend the 2019 Global Grand Challenges Summit Sept. 16-18 in London.
The meeting, sponsored by the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will bring together 900 world leaders, emerging engineers and entrepreneurs from the U.S., U.K. and China to discuss the U.S. National Academy of Engineering's 14 Grand Challenges, goals to improve life on the planet.
Lake's research in his Musculoskeletal Soft Tissue Laboratory focuses on soft tissue biomechanics, with an emphasis on orthopedic tissues, such as tendon and ligament. His research uses a multiscale experimental and computational approach to evaluate the in vivo loading environment, tissue properties and microstructural structure-function relationships of tissues that function in complex physiologic environments.
