Alumna Tuleja receives 2020 Ralph S. Quatrano Prize in Engineering

Taylor Tuleja, an alumna of the McKelvey School of Engineering, has been chosen to receive the 2020 Ralph S. Quatrano Prize, given in honor of Ralph Quatrano, the Spencer T. Olin Professor Emeritus, dean of Engineering from 2010 to 2015 and former chair of the Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis.
Established through a generous donation by Katherine Day Reinleitner, the prize is sponsored by The Mindlin Foundation, which presents two prizes annually, one in Engineering and one in biology, both honoring Quatrano’s exemplary leadership as Engineering dean and his important work as a researcher in biology.
In December 2019, Tuleja earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Hawaii Pacific University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Washington University through the Dual Degree Program as well as master’s in aerospace engineering. While a student, Tuleja was president of Design-Build-Fly, a team that builds an aircraft for an annual competition; a graduate teaching assistant in fluid mechanics course; vice-president of Dual Degree Engineers and a Dual Degree Ambassador; served on the St. Louis Arch Design Team for two years and was a member of three honor societies. She also received the Kenneth L. Jerina Prize for Outstanding Transfer Student. In addition, she completed an externship at Spartan Light Metal Products and summer internships at Brookhaven National Laboratory, L’Oreal and The Boeing Co. She is a materials, process and physics engineer II at The Boeing Co. in Seattle.
