Anushka Mishrra, a doctoral student in the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering, was awarded the 2021 Abel Wolman Fellowship by the American Water Works Association.
The award supports promising doctoral students in the United States, Canada and Mexico by providing up to two years of funding for advanced training and research in the field of water supply and treatment.
“I was ecstatic when I received the news of the award,” Mishrra said. “I'm very grateful to my research adviser, Daniel Giammar, for his constant guidance; to the research community at WashU for its support; and to my research collaborators Nicole Blute and her colleagues at Hazen and Sawyer who have fostered my professional development.”
Mishrra’s doctoral research focuses on understanding the different aspects of water distribution that affect lead release from lead service lines and lead-based premise plumbing materials into drinking water.
“This fellowship provides me the opportunity to further my research interests in the field of water treatment and technology,” Mishrra said. “I hope the findings from my research can impact a broader community and guide water utilities in their strategic planning for supplying safe water.”
Mishrra works in the lab of Giammar, the Walter E. Browne Professor of Environmental Engineering and a core faculty member at the Center for Water Innovation (CWI).
