Jacob Weinstein earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2021
Jacob Weinstein, an alumnus of the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, died Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He was 22 years old.
Weinstein earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in energy engineering in 2021. He worked as an engineering consultant for an energy solutions company in St. Louis, initially as an intern and then as a full-time team member following graduation.
Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Weinstein graduated from the Seven Hills School before attending WashU. While at WashU, Weinstein became a member and served as an officer of Pi Tau Sigma, the international honorary society for mechanical engineers. He also played on the WashU club baseball team and was co-president of the club from 2019 to 2020.
“Jacob was thoughtful, humble and well-liked by all,” said Emily Boyd, a teaching professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science and Weinstein’s departmental adviser. “He was passionate about alternative energy and sustainability, and wanted to make the world a better place. While his time here was too short, he did make the world a better place just by being in it.”
Weinstein is survived by his parents, Barry and Karen Dugan Weinstein; two sisters, Sarah (Chris) Knowlton and Annie (Eric) Hyrne; and a brother, Ben (Cindy) Weinstein.
Funeral services were held March 8 at Weil Kahn Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Cincinnati Reds Community Fund, Union of Concerned Scientists or other environmental advocacy charity or the charity of one's choice.
