Chen receives early career award for research in therapeutic ultrasound
The International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound has recognized Hong Chen, assistant professor of biomedical engineering and radiation oncology, for her contributions to the field
Hong Chen, assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering and of radiation oncology at the School of Medicine, has been selected to receive the 2020 Frederic Lizzi Early Career Award from the International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU). The award recognizes individuals early in their professional career who have contributed substantially to the advancement of therapeutic ultrasound.
"It's a great honor to receive this award from the ISTU," Chen said. "Being recognized with this award as an early-stage investigator gives me great encouragement to push the therapeutic ultrasound field forward."
The ISTU promotes international development and collaboration in the field of therapeutic ultrasound including research, development, commercialization, clinical application and education.
"Hong's creativity and energy for research and teaching continues to amaze us," said Lori Setton, chair and Lucy & Stanley Lopata Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering. "She finds applications for ultrasound in every aspect of science and medicine and engages countless students and trainees in the excitement of her research."
Chen joined the WashU faculty in 2015. Her research focuses on medical ultrasound and the development of ultrasound-based image-guided drug delivery platforms for cancer therapy.
